"Pixie Dust" Quilt - Finished!
Well, though this did most certainly NOT turn out perfect, it is done. And it is sitting in a bag by the front door waiting to be brought to the PO to be shipped off to Quilts for Kids. I decided to call it "Pixie Dust" for a few reasons:
- The focus fabric is of these darling sparkly fairies, and the whole backing fabric (which I didn't take a pic of post-quilting, but as Lilith's Mommy correctly pointed out to me is called Fresh Fairy Frost by Michael Miller) is a lovely and happy and quite sparkly spring green. I posted a pic of the fabrics pre-quilting here in case you missed it.
- As instructed, I washed and dried the quilt after finishing it. When I went to transfer it from the washer to the dryer, some of the sparkly magic came off on my hands. Turning my hands in the light I now have a nice sparkly sheen I did not have previously. :)
Sorry that the picture is less than stellar. The fairy fabric is quite a bit more vibrant than it is showing up. I thought about bringing the backing fabric to the front for the binding, but in the end went pillowcase style because (and Mr. Skooks agreed) though the green looked lovely on it's own (and with the fairy fabric), it didn't really seem to go well with the pinks and blues of the checkerboard blocks. Had I selected these fabrics myself, I likely would have gone a bit more soft on the pinks and blues. The fairies are a lot more pastel than the 4 square blocks. Even so, I am fairly pleased with how it turned out.
Oh, and I will DEFINITELY read up a lot more about quilting before I tackle my next quilting endeavor (which should *really* be to finish Kee-ku's Brown Bear quilt. The top has been pieced since before he was born and he is creeping up on 6 months old now. Oops. Why the world have I been procrastinating on finishing it, I'll never know.)
This took me all weekend to do (yes, I am a novice. I'm sure some of you could whip this baby out a lot quicker), but it was well worth it. Lots of prayers went into it as I stitched. Overall, my prayer is that this quilt dusts some of its love and blessings on the child who receives it and that its presence brings a bit of joy, comfort, and warmth to its new owner.
A lot of love went into it. And I would totally do it all over again. This was a wonderful experience. :)

Suer cute Quilt!! I find quilting so fun but it takes practice to get everything all lined up. I have to pay such close attention. Then I end up sewing on something sideways. LOL.
Looks great -- can't wait to get my kit and see what they selected. Will send pics when done.
Cute. I think if I had picked out the fabrics, I might have picked a lighter/paler pink and blue, too. I haven't gotten my kit, yet. When I do, I'll post pics. :) It does take practice to get things lined up nicely, but I've learned that it's ok if it's not perfect. I will drive myself crazy trying to get my lines perfect. LOL
Mine came during dinner! It's lots of puppy fabrics. I think I'll call it "Puppy love." The colors they picked go really nice with it all, too. Blog/pics tomorrow. :)
Oh wow, you are a braver soul than I. I just finished a purse and that was A LOT! Bravo on the quilt, the little fairies look adorable and some child is going to love it! Stopping by from SITS, have a great Tuesday!
