Toy Sewing Machines - I'm Bout to Be Hooked

Well lookee what came to live at my house today . . . Miss Universal:

No idea how old she is . . . 1970s?

The box is pretty beat up . . . but the little girl on the side is telltale as to the age I think.
I tried threading her up and cranking her (yes, she hand cranks only) to see if I could get some stitching going.  It started off ok, but after a few inches of actually pretty decent stitches the needle kept becoming unthreaded (kept unthreading itself?  the thread escaped the needle?  something . . .).  Anyway.

I'm not giving up on her, but methinks I'm going to have to continue my search for a sweet little toy machine for Little Miss.  She's been in on me lately about wanting to try to sew herself.

So it's decided, Miss Universal will reside in my sewing room amongst my sewing bits and bobs.  Regardless of her less than usefulness, her cuteabilities were worth the $6.95 I think.

Thank you, eBay.

And so what if she's not making a perfect chainstitch at the moment?  She is still darling.  And orange.  That won me over big time.

Oh help me, I think I may have to start a little collection of vintage toy machines they are so CUTE.

What are you collecting lately?

Love it! I think I had one of these as a kid! Looks very familiar...

I seem to be collecting more fabric :)

Ooh, didn't we *have* one of those? I vaguely remember a green and white one...I wonder if Mom remembers?
