Day 1: Introduction to the Jesse Tree
As this is our first year doing a Jesse Tree with our kids, the devotional for Day 1 is critical. I've been talking to Little Miss over the course of the last month about the ornaments I'm making for the Jesse Tree . . . and that each one means something special about the people in Jesus' family. She's quite intrigued.
Yesterday I started pulling out all of the usual suspects when it comes to Christmas decor . . . all of a sudden the mood went from intrigued to downright giddy with anticipation. It's amazing what a little jazz thrown up here and there will do to lift the spirit of the season to the next level.
I ran out of time to make a "tree" for the wall as I had intended . . . good ideas are on file for next year. . . but this year we're going to roll with a mini tree that I've had since I was a kid. I'd prefer the wall option as table space is at a premium around here, and I tend to want to keep little things out of Kee-ku's reach, but we're working with what we've got this year.
Isaiah 11:1-2
The Branch From Jesse
1 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;
from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him—
the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of might,
the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD—
